Following the design styles of my colorful pop-art paintings with liquid acrylic paint pours, here’s a portrait of Milhouse Van Houten as seen in the iconic classic Simpsons episode “Marge Be Not Proud” as he enters his name during the start screen of Bonestorm!

For the source image, I took screencaps of various parts of the aforementioned episode to create a unique composite image of Milhouse playing Bonestorm. I took a few creative licenses to deviate from the actual source images from the episode, notably I gave Milhouse an NES controller. After I created the composite image, I used a projector to display the image on my acrylic paint pour background, and I went over the image with white primer paint for the basic shape, and then sketched over the lines with a pencil. The rest was all then painted with various acrylic paints by hand.

The most difficult part of this painting was trying to get the right color green for his skin. In the actual episode where I referenced this image, Milhouse’s skin was tinted mint green from the TV screen’s glow. I used several layers of green, yellow, and white paint mixed together to get the right skin tone, which never really looked quite right. So in the final painting, the green skin is heavily caked on the canvas where I would I repeatedly go back over top of the previous layers.
