An acrylic painting on a 24”x30” canvas featuring the ghost type Pokémon: Gengar.

This started with an acrylic paint pour as a base with the artwork painted over top of it. The acrylic paint pour used blue, pink, purple, magenta, and white paint mixed with Floetrol Flood, and then swirled around to create the abstract liquid effect. Then I shot a close-up photo of my classic Gengar figurine and adjusted the colors in Photoshop, and when the paint pour was dry, I used a projector to project my photo of the Gengar image on the canvas. I started with a layer of white primer and then used a pencil to create reference lines of the main image of Gengar.

After the primer layer dried, I used black paint to paint the hard shadows for a foundation, and then added multiple layers of blue and purple for the shadows and midtones. The eyes contained a few layers of red and neon pink. Finally I added the white lightning glow effect around the edges; I tried to add a subtle neon pink glow, but it was lost within the paint pour background, so I painted over the pink glow with extra white paint.
