“If only you knew how bad things really are.”

Promotional shot for my LEGO Simpsons parody “Morgue Sampson”. Unlike Bort Sampson (2020) which had a rigid plot and elaborate settings, this is a rather simple animation that consists of a single gag and setting.

I came up with the general idea in fall 2020 when I made the mistake of watching a clip of the modern “Zombie-Era” Simpsons and was absolutely shocked and mortified to hear how poorly Marge’s voice has degraded over the years. With that in mind, I came up with a quick satire to symbolize my interpretation of Julie Kavner’s voice as well as my opinion on the state of the show (i.e. dying). Therefore, in my video, Marge [Morgue] stands in front of a theater curtain and screeches in pain for a whole minute before falling over dead. Very straightforward, if you ask me.

The shots for the video often utilized my metal ball & socket puppet rig to anchor her in place, especially for the opening shot where she walks into frame. Later in After Effects I used composite images to remove the metal rig. Also in post-production I altered the colors to make them much more vibrant and pronounced, such as heavily emphasizing the green in her dress and making the red curtains more purple.
