This is the full version of a LEGO vignette I created for an Ideas competition called “Exploring the Cosmos”. The premise of the building challenge is to make futuristic space vehicles or bases with using 150-250 pieces total. I built this project, shot the photo, and then afterwards realized I went well over the 250 part limit. I ended up streamlining the project significantly by removing some of the detail of the ship, removing the three small meteors surrounding the ship, and reduced the size of the exploding meteor. This brought the total count to 250 pieces exactly. Next I retook the streamlined version’s photos and submitted it to the competition. Hence the version seen in the challenge page looks a bit different than the image seen here.
The original working name of the project was the “Asteroid Authority”, clearly inspired by the classic Atari game Asteroids. Whether I win the contest or not, I at least deserve some credit for the awesome name “Meteor Watchdog!”
