A simple retro throwback vector design I made of a basic LEGO minifigure on an abstract background of LEGO bricks. The overall design theme was inspired by classic ’80s and ’90s LEGO brand, when things were much simpler. In fact, the brick pattern in the background here was directly inspired by the geometric shapes of the 1990 LEGO Idea Book, which I frequently read as a kid. Initially the artwork in this illustration used standard primary colors like black, blue, red, and yellow – but I decided to experiment with cool colors like turquoise and hot pink, reminiscent of classic ’90s brands like Yikes pencils, Lisa Frank, and Taco Bell. Hence, for the T-shirt designs in the links above, I have both variations: the cool, vaporwave aesthetic (girls shirt) as well as the traditional primary color version (the unisex shirt).

Here’s the original artwork design which used standard primary colors. After creating this, I switched to the cool vaporwave colors instead as the main design, but kept this standard blue version as an alternate design for unisex shirts:

Update summer 2023: I’ve retooled this base design several times to make variations for stickers, a lot of which I’ve placed around Lower Manhattan in guerilla street-art style!

A lot of them sadly keep getting peeled off, so I’ve improved my techniques and experimented with permanent eggshell stickers – so that I can keep my art plastered for a long time in New York City! I’ve also greatly improved the overall design of the minifigure by making him more detailed.
