18”x24” acrylic on canvas painting.
I’m very much proud of this particular painting due to the details and colors I’ve managed to create, especially since how it only took me less than three days to fully complete. I’ve used a combination of acrylic paints from Liquitex, Blick, Artist’s Loft.
The reference photo is an early ’90s LEGO Space minifigure from the Blacktron Generation 2 series. As a kid, I was always fascinated by the aesthetics of these toys, not just because they had fluorescent green lasers and shields – but because their logo is a big letter B! You can’t go wrong with that.
Since despite the Blacktron II minifigs having vibrant fluorescent green lasers and shields, their uniforms were otherwise bland with solid black and white parts. So rather than having the painting appear dull, I added green tinting to the shadows and highlights of the black and white parts of the minifig’s body.
After painting the spaceman minifigure on the swirled paint pour background, I added a subtle neon yellow glow around him with transparent paint to help separate the spaceman from the background a bit more.
