Here’s my submission to an official LEGO Ideas building challenge for Pokémon card designs.
I chose to make a vignette of the classic cat Pokémon Meowth tossing a handful of coins, as he emerges from the tall grass. By the way, this is my first LEGO creation of 2026. It’s been over a year since I’ve completed any original creations, as I’ve been extremely busy with so many things in my personal life. When this challenge was announced, I couldn’t resist!
I began the project with building Meowth’s face, then progressed to constructing his body and limbs. The grass, background, and frame were done after completion of the cat. The final step was making the handful of coins scatter by fixing them to transparent bars.
Some of my design challenges included the accurate design of the cat’s ears, the black pupils of his eyes, the method of attaching the head to the body, and making the coins float from his paw. I originally wanted the background to be more ornate with a bunch of coins emerging from all directions, but realized it was too distracting. I narrowed it down to just having Meowth tossing a small handful of gold coins.
Some flaws of this creation include the poor stability of Meowth’s feet, as well as the heaviness of his head which tends to topple over. The feet and legs are somewhat flimsy and have major points of failure.
