A simple retro throwback vector design I made of a basic LEGO minifigure on an abstract background of LEGO bricks. The overall design theme was inspired by classic ’80s and ’90s LEGO brand, when things were much simpler. In fact, the brick pattern in the background here was directly inspired by the geometric shapes of the 1990 LEGO Idea Book, which I frequently read as a kid. Initially the artwork in this illustration used standard primary colors like black, blue, red, and yellow – but I decided to experiment with cool colors like turquoise and hot pink, reminiscent of classic ’90s brands like Yikes pencils, Lisa Frank, and Taco Bell. Hence, for the T-shirt designs in the links above, I have both variations: the cool, vaporwave aesthetic (girls shirt) as well as the traditional primary color version (the unisex shirt).

The reference photo for this image was taken by me, which was a simple minifigure with plain features. I traced it in Illustrator and used it as a base design for dozens of concepts, including fine art paintings and stencil paintings.
