Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, & Zeddemore: accept no substitutes.
A nighttime shot of my Ghostbusters minifigs taken at Gantry Park in Long Island City. This was somewhat of a difficult shot to get, because like most of my other nighttime outdoor shoots, I had to constantly deal with obnoxious tourists and pedestrians. I would try to snap photos, and suddenly random people would walk up and stand in the frame and ask what I was doing, ignoring the fact that I was clearly trying to take a damn picture of something. Fortunately it wasn’t windy, hence I could easily do long exposures without the figures toppling over. The backlit effect was achieved from holding my cell phone’s flashlight app against the back of the Ecto-1 while my arm was out of the shot. Later in Adobe Lightroom I tinted the lighting to be slime green.
I shot this photo and shared it on the night the terrible 2016 Ghostbusters reboot premiered, as I was one of the few members of the Instagram LEGO community to denounce that horrible film. As a result, this photo drummed up a lot of controversy on social media, nearly got me banned on Reddit, and caused a major schism in geek fandom circles who accused me of being a misogynist. I lost a ton of followers as a result of this image.
Ghostbusters 2016 sucked, and I am not changing my opinion.
