“The Moth Nebula” – 18” x 24” acrylic on canvas painting

This is a celestial matte painting I’ve been working on through the course of a week from January 16-23. It’s been a while since my last painting, and as a result, it took me multiple do-overs to get the blue nebula background looking right. For instance, I would paint the clouds in the background only to be dissatisfied, and would eventually paint over top of them with more layers of blue and black paint to cover it up. Next came the stars which look kind of sloppy, and had to be toned down a bit. The planets were added lastly on the final night, and I personally think they look best. This painting has been used as a backdrop for my LEGO spacemen!
